NTA portals validate three things automatically. Understanding each helps you avoid upload failures.

Pixel Dimensions

The portal checks pixel dimensions for aspect ratio validation. Photo should be approximately 3.5×4.5 cm (portrait orientation). Incorrect aspect ratios fail the automated check immediately.

File Size (KB)

NEET/JEE photos must be 10–200 KB. Signatures must be 10–100 KB. Files outside these ranges are rejected by NTA's portal validation regardless of image quality.

File Format — JPG Only

Only JPG/JPEG format is accepted. PNG, WEBP, HEIC (iPhone), and BMP files are not accepted. Our tool automatically converts all formats to JPG — transparent backgrounds become white.

Photo Content Rules

NTA requires 80% face coverage including ears, white or plain light background, no mask. Recent photo (after Jan 1, 2026 for NEET UG). Selfies with colored backgrounds are commonly rejected.

Signature — NEET Specific

NEET UG requires signature in running handwriting (not block/capital letters). Black/blue ink on white paper. JEE Main allows any legible signature in black/blue ink on white paper.

NEET UG 2026 additionally requires Left and Right Hand Fingers + Thumb impressions (10–200 KB each, JPG). These are separate uploads — left hand and right hand. JEE Main does not require this upload.

🛠️ Common NEET/JEE Photo Upload Errors & Fixes

"File Too Large" Error

Studio photo is 2–5 MB but NTA portal maximum is 200 KB for photos. NEET/JEE signature max is 100 KB. Portal rejects with "file too large" or "invalid file".

Wrong Format (HEIC, PNG, WEBP)

iPhone saves as HEIC. Screenshots save as PNG. Edited photos save as WEBP. NTA portals only accept JPG/JPEG.

Wrong Dimensions / Aspect Ratio

Square cropped photos or landscape selfies fail NTA's aspect ratio check. Photos must be portrait orientation (taller than wide).

Block Letter Signature Rejected

NEET UG 2026 specifically requires signature in running handwriting, NOT block/capital letters. Block letter signatures are rejected during scrutiny.

JEE Correction Window Photo Error
